Enfield Meets Chimera

Enfield Meets Chimera is the short film I created over the last 6 months as my final project for school. The current version, shown above, is what I've been able to finish before my final school due date. I hope to complete the film in the future, but for now I'm pleased with the amount of work I was able to get done in the time I had.

Creating The Short Film

If you'd like, you can see the making of the short film below! Most of the boring or gritty details are being left out, but I'll show my character design, location design, storyboarding/animatics, and stages of some of my animations.

Character Design

With Chimera's Design I had to figure out how to put the three animal's into one in a way that was clear and easy to animate. I ended up settling on design 7.

This is the final turn around, but little details were adjusted in the animation, for example, the goat head being more to the side than on top.

Enfield

Enfield was pretty simple, I spent most of my time wondering it should have wings or not. I mixed 8 and 9 for the final design and there weren't really any adjustments made while animating.

Location Design

Location design was lots of sketching and figuring out what colours looked nice for the background. Still, Not too much to show here.

Storyboarding/Animatic

Here's my storyboards for the short film put together into an animatic. It's really crunchy so I recommend not watching it on full screen.

Animation and After Effects

Using one of my finished scenes as an example I'll show off my process.

Roughs

While Referencing my animatic I made roughs for my scene. I fixed up the scenes timing and added more personality to the character as I went.

Lines and Colour

Then I went onto the process of doing final lining and colour. I started with lining everything and then went back over and coloured it all. The most difficult part was coping with how different it looked from the roughs.

After Effects

When the animation was done, I handed the background and animation files to my teacher Roland, and he used the assets I gave him to make it look more like the character came out of the grass.

And That's All

That's the basics of how I made the short film. I hope you enjoyed reading and seeing the process.
